A NOTE FROM JULES

Dear Friends and Art Lovers,

Let me infuse a tad of artiness into your day.

The artistic life… ahhhh! It’s never boring that’s for sure… between exhibitions, workshops, outings and other events I feel very privileged to be able to enjoy so many wonderful things. We’ve had a great start to the year in the studio as well as the shop… and can you believe it’s Autumn already?

It seems that my feet have barely hit the ground for the past few months (no complaints here though), and I’m sure I’m not alone.

Classes at the studio are bursting with energy and it’s fabulous to see so many wonderful works leaving the studio each week. Children’s classes have just completed their first projects for term one ‘Quirky Collages’ and these are available to see on the studio website here.

A special ‘congratulations’ to all of the students who won prizes at the Milton Show recently, including Rose Sims and Georgia Ewin who won Champion ribbons! Rose for Ceramics and Georgia for her art in the Junior section.

Adults Painting & Drawing classes also began the monthly ‘Drawing Day’ last week – the first week of each month will be dedicated solely to drawing. There has been a great response to this new format already so to all students – remember to bring your drawing materials. Next month… perspective!!!

I’ve also just announced a few more weekend workshops to keep you inspired, plus loads of other things on the horizon. Read on for details.

And once again, here’s to endless creativity in whatever form you choose!     x Jules

Once fired these pieces are fully functional and make the perfect gift… or keep it to enjoy for yourself.
You will be shown tips on design, paint application, building of colours and more. If you’re worried about drawing, don’t be… there’s always a way!

HALF DAY WORKSHOP: SATURDAY 5th MAY – 9am-1pm
COLOUR THEORY
Cool, warm, primary, secondary, harmonious, complementary… are you in need of some sound knowledge in this area? Or maybe you’d like to feel more confident mixing colours?

This session aims to provide a basic understanding of colours, how they relate and how they mix. You will be taken through a variety of exercises, be given information on the topic to take home and hopefully leave the workshop feeling a lot more confident with your colour skills!

The day typically includes comments like “is my bum too big?”, “where does my belly button go?” or “do my nipples look right?” which only adds to the hilarity.

You’ll create a torso approx. 30cm in height, which will be left at the studio for firing.

Push, squish and mould the clay into the shape you like!

The day will include a lovely lunch from the House of Jules kitchen, all materials and firing post-workshop.

CITIZENSHIP AWARD NOMINATION

Earlier in the year Jules was nominated for an Australia Day 2012 – Shoalhaven Citizenship Award. The nomination was based on the work that Jules does with the local arts community, in particular the Escape ARTfest.

Jules is pictured with Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Paul Green.

There were 39 nominations from the local area for the Shoalhaven Citizen of the Year – and what an amazing line-up of people. The winner was the very deserving Shirley Coleman who had contributed over 50 years of service to the community.

Jules was honoured to be included amongst such a generous group of people in being nominated.
